Troop 30 is incredibly proud to announce the successful completion of a major community project led by one of our own. Sean recently achieved a significant milestone on his path to Eagle Scout by coordinating the installation of two new lending libraries designed to serve local families and children.

This project was made possible through a wonderful partnership with the Paxton Friends of the Library, whose mission to enrich our community through book access aligned perfectly with Sean’s vision.

A Cross-Community Effort

Eagle Scout projects require leadership and coordination, and Sean demonstrated both by working across town and state lines. He collaborated with officials in Florala, Alabama, and the town of Lockhart, Alabama, to secure locations for these libraries.

Because of his hard work and the support of his fellow scouts, children in these areas now have 24/7 access to reading materials. You can find these new lending libraries at:

• Percy’s Park in Florala (located on 5th Street)

• The community park in Lockhart

How You Can Help

A library is only as strong as its collection. We are inviting the community to help keep these shelves stocked with engaging stories for young readers. You can place book donations directly into the lending libraries at Percy’s Park or the Lockhart park.

Our local scouts will be handling the ongoing maintenance of these libraries, ensuring they remain tidy and well-stocked with the books.

Teamwork in Action

While Sean took the lead, a project of this scale is rarely a solo endeavor. Sean was supported by his fellow scouts from Troop 30 and Troop 331 of the Gulf Coast Council, Scouting America. It was a great opportunity for our scouts to work together, practice their construction skills, and give back to the neighborhoods that support us.

We want to extend a huge thank you to Sean for his leadership and to the Paxton Friends of the Library for their guidance and partnership. These libraries will serve as a lasting resource for the children of Florala and Lockhart for years to come.

The waterways recently became the classroom for members of Scout Troop 30 as they successfully navigated their way to earning the Motorboating Merit Badge! The dedicated young women of Crestview’s Troop 30G recently put their commitment to the environment into action, celebrating Earth Day with a meaningful cleanup effort at the cherished Spanish Trail Park. Armed with gloves and trash bags, these enthusiastic scouts spent the day diligently collecting litter, demonstrating their understanding of conservation and their dedication to keeping their local community beautiful.

Earth Day, observed annually on April 22nd, serves as a powerful reminder of our responsibility to protect and preserve the planet. For Troop 30G, this wasn’t just another day; it was an opportunity to actively contribute to the well-being of a space they likely know and love. Spanish Trail Park, a local gem offering recreational opportunities and natural beauty, became their focus as they embarked on their mission to make a tangible difference.

The importance of teaching conservation to children in our local communities cannot be overstated. Instilling these values early on creates a generation that is environmentally aware, responsible, and proactive in protecting the natural world around them. Here’s why it’s so crucial:

Scouts from Troop 30B recently embarked on an exciting journey to the Order of the Arrow (OA) Conclave, a regional gathering of outstanding Scouts from across the Gulf Coast Council. The event, hosted by the Yustaga Lodge at Spanish Trail Scout Reservation, brought together hundreds of Scouts from across Section 4 and the Choctaw District for a weekend of fun, fellowship, and leadership development.

The Conclave offered a diverse array of activities designed to challenge and inspire the Scouts. Participants engaged in:

• Skill Demonstrations: Workshops and demonstrations showcased a wide range of outdoor skills, from advanced knot-tying techniques to wilderness survival strategies. Scouts had the opportunity to learn from experienced Scouters and hone their skills in areas like fire building, first aid, and orienteering.
• Leadership Training: The Conclave emphasized the importance of leadership and service. Scouts participated in interactive workshops that focused on teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills, equipping them with the tools to become effective leaders within their troops and communities.
• Service Projects: A cornerstone of the Order of the Arrow is service to others. Scouts participated in community service projects that benefited the host camp or local organizations, demonstrating their commitment to making a positive impact on their community.  
• Fellowship and Fun: The Conclave provided ample opportunities for Scouts to connect with other members of the Order of the Arrow from across the region. Campfires, skits, and games created a fun and social atmosphere, fostering friendships and a sense of camaraderie.

The Conclave experience is more than just a weekend of fun and games. It offers Scouts the opportunity to:

The Scouts from Troop 30B returned from the Conclave with renewed enthusiasm for Scouting and a deeper understanding of the importance of leadership, service, and fellowship. They are now better equipped to serve their troop, their community, and the Scouting movement as a whole. The Conclave experience will undoubtedly be a highlight of their Scouting journey, leaving a lasting impact on their personal and leadership development.

The air in Crestview, Florida, is buzzing with excitement as Troop 30G, the local Scouting America’s troop for girls, proudly celebrates its second birthday! What started as a small group of enthusiastic young women has blossomed into a vibrant and thriving community, proving the power and importance of scouting opportunities for female teenagers.

Two years ago, the landscape of scouting in Crestview shifted for the better, offering girls the same incredible experiences and pathways to leadership that had long been available to their male counterparts. Troop 30G was born, and in its short history, it has already made a significant impact on the lives of its members.

From conquering challenging hiking trails in the Florida panhandle to mastering essential life skills like first aid and knot tying, the girls of Troop 30G have embraced every adventure with enthusiasm and determination. They’ve learned to work as a team, support each other through challenges, and celebrate each other’s successes. But beyond the fun and camaraderie, something truly remarkable is happening: these young women are building the foundations for a lifetime of leadership, confidence, and unwavering self-esteem.
